Invisalign braces differ from traditional braces both in look and feel. Unlike traditional fixed braces, Invisalign treatments accomplish readjustment through a series of custom designed removable aligners; every two weeks a new aligner shifts your teeth just a bit further towards the desired end goal. Made of implant-grade polyurethane, Invisalign braces are virtually invisible; only you will know you’re wearing them.
The biggest advantage of the Invisalign treatment is the fact that the aligners are removable. You can eat just as you did before, without worrying about embarrassing food moments.
And because there is no awkward cleaning around metal wires, it’s easier to maintain good oral hygiene throughout treatment. Since few people have had both treatments it’s difficult to make a direct comparison, however patients report that their experience with Invisalign is fairly pain free. This is likely because with traditional braces adjustments occur only once every 6 weeks, and are thus more forceful than the gradual realignment that happens with Invisalign’s 2 week adjustment schedule.
While Invisalign can treat a wide range of orthodontic complications, including spaced or crowded teeth, underbites or overbites, it’s best to meet with an orthodontist to determine whether Invisalign is the right treatment for your individual case. We offer both a full orthodontic consultation, in which x-rays are taken and a treatment plan developed, or a pre-consultation, where you can ask any questions you may have.
