A recent study from the University of Belfast has found that postmenopausal women who suffer from gum disease are at a much higher risk of developing breast cancer. Breast cancer is a major epidemic in the world, and continues to decimate the adult population along such popular forms of this incurable disease as oral cancer, prostate and lung cancer. Concern over environmental factors in causing cancer is growing. Many seemingly harmless things (water bottles, grilled vegetables, etc) are now being labelled as carcinogenic, and are being shunned. X-rays have long been known to be carcinogenic, as the x-ray machine emits gamma radiation in controlled doses. Are dental x-rays bad for you? Can they contribute to cancer?

It seems that the fear of a long and painful death by asphyxiation is not enough to deter people from smoking cigarettes, so the FDA has decided to target the population a little bit differently; by speaking to their vanity, and to the everyday negative consequences of smoking, like tooth loss and premature aging. Although it speaks volumes that this is the kind of thing that needs to be addressed in order to get a reaction. the campaign is so far a success, and has been quite shocking so far.

My problem is, I have noticed a bump on my gum, above my left canine on my upper jaw. What is this from? Can it be oral cancer? The bump is roughly 5-6 millimeters in diameter, and is raised some 3-4 millimeters. What could it be?”
