Electrical currents may replace needles s the form of dental anaesthetic, much to the delight of many patients.
Recurring oral problems are very often caused by improper oral hygiene, and by being exposed to the same microbes and the same pathogens over and over, time and time again. This is because we eat the way we do, have oral flora that is the way it is, and encounter the same microbes from the air, from the people we kiss, from the foods we eat, as each ecosystem and climate has its own set of microbes and bacterial life that flourish on it. One of the places that microbial life flourishes is the toothbrush.
Morning breath, dragon breath, or its Latin name, halitosis. This is the acrid, repulsive smell that many people have, especially in the morning and after eating food. What can we do to prevent it? In order to answer that question, we need to find out the causes of Halitosis, and deal with them properly.
One of the first questions that any patient is going to ask upon hearing the price of a dental implant is “gee, that’s a lot of money, how long do these things last?” The questions is absolutely legitimate, and there are many different answers. Let us take a look at the longevity of dental implants, and how long they are supposed to last, and how long they actually do.
Candida albicans and its many varieties are always with us, in our bodies from before we are born. This otherwise harmless fungus lives in our digestive tract and on our skin, and even, in small quantities, in our mouths. This fungus is well regulated by the host’s immune system, and so this fungus, which is the cause of many nasty infections, is usually kept under control and aids us in our lives. But when the immune system weakens or fails to respond to an outbreak of candida albicans, things can get ugly. From the notoriously well-known yeast infections that over 75% of women have to deal with from time to time, to the oral thrush of infants, many skin diseases and other conditions are caused by candida.
It seems that the fear of a long and painful death by asphyxiation is not enough to deter people from smoking cigarettes, so the FDA has decided to target the population a little bit differently; by speaking to their vanity, and to the everyday negative consequences of smoking, like tooth loss and premature aging. Although it speaks volumes that this is the kind of thing that needs to be addressed in order to get a reaction. the campaign is so far a success, and has been quite shocking so far.
